Oregon police released audio from a 911 call made on October 15 by a father who shot the teenager responsible for a deadly school shooting. The recording captures the frantic moments before Kaylub Giamanco entered the building.
Giamanco was driving home for lunch when he spotted the attacker at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend. He told the dispatcher that someone with a weapon was inside the school. "I have a gun and I'm going to shoot him right now," Giamanco said. He grew frustrated when the operator urged him to wait for an officer. "I'm about to go kill this kid," he stated.
Seconds later, Giamanco reported that the attacker was entering the building. When the dispatcher asked if the shooter was firing, Giamanco confirmed they were. The call ended abruptly before further details were exchanged.
On October 15, 16-year-old Griffin J. John II forced his way through locked doors into an elementary special education classroom. He killed three students and one teacher. One other student suffered serious injuries, and a second teacher was hospitalized after being wounded.
A teacher attempted to stop John before Giamanco entered through an open window. Giamanco opened the classroom door and fired, knocking the attacker down.
