Imax Corp. reported net income of $117.1 million for the third quarter, a jump of more than 400 percent from the $22.6 million recorded in the same period of 2025.
The company’s global box office for the quarter reached a record $712 million, more than doubling the $368 million collected a year earlier. Premium ticket sales, which include higher-priced formats like 70mm, totaled over $550 million worldwide. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey was the primary driver, with its 70mm presentation contributing heavily to those premium sales.
Revenue climbed 64 percent to $174.6 million, up from $106.7 million in the previous year’s third quarter. Adjusted EBITDA also set a new quarterly record at $121 million, up 133 percent from $51.8 million. Adjusted earnings per share reached $2.21, compared to 47 cents in the prior year period.
CFO Natasha Fernandes attributed the growth to the expansion of the company’s network. She told analysts on a morning call that the results show the operating leverage available as Imax grows its box office. CEO Rich Gelfond described the performance in a statement as an awakening to the platform’s potential to impact global culture and unlock commercial opportunities.
Looking ahead, Imax forecasts that it will exceed its full-year 2026 guidance for a record $1.4 billion in global box office. The company has signed agreements for 105 theater systems so far this year. Gelfond noted that a 13-theater agreement in Europe is expected to close soon.
The upcoming slate includes the release of Dune: Part Three in December, for which Imax has secured $30 million in pre-sales, the second highest total in company history. The 2027 lineup features films shot with proprietary Imax cameras, such as Star Wars: Starfighter and the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow. Avengers: Secret Wars and the original Star Wars will also be presented in 70mm film for the first time.
The company is testing new concept auditoriums designed for better immersive aspect ratio and sound. Gelfond said Imax is also planning to expand its 70mm film locations by 10 to 15 new sites. Merchandise efforts continue with a Godzilla Minus Zero apparel line and Imax-branded products targeting the Dune release.
A notable distribution deal involves the Brad Pitt film The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. While Cinemark and Regal declined the film due to Netflix’s two-week release window, AMC Theatres will screen it on its Imax screens. The movie debuts in theaters on Nov. 25, ahead of its Dec. 23 streaming release.
