Halloweekend lands in Houston this Friday through Sunday with food and drink events tied to Halloween and Día de los Muertos.

Coltivare at 3106 White Oak is serving soft sourdough pretzels Friday and Saturday, prepared with smoked Italian speck and pickled mustard seed sauce. Chef Ryan Pera said the item recalls a childhood Halloween tradition. On Halloween night, the restaurant's pretzel stand will give one free pretzel to each trick-or-treater while supplies last.

At 6119 Edloe, Maximo is holding its trick-or-treating smashburger event Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. It marks the second year the restaurant has run the gathering. Chef Adrian Torres will cook smashburgers on the plancha, with Mexican candy for children and frozen margaritas for adults. Drinks can be served in a 16 oz Maximo Yeti. A community ofrenda honoring Día de Muertos will be on site.

Two Sunday brunches mark Día de los Muertos. Mayahuel at 811 Buffalo Park runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with live music, complimentary face painting from 10 a.m. to noon, and specials including pan de muerto, chicken enchiladas with mole, and pozole verde alongside its regular brunch menu. Arnaldo Richards' Picos at 3736 Westheimer serves a Mexican brunch buffet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with face painting for children from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and tequila tastings with Herradura from noon to 2 p.m. and INSÓLITO from 2 to 4 p.m.

Camaraderie at 608 West 11th offers a one-day French bistro brunch Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Chef-owner Shawn Gawle's menu includes oeuf en cocotte, crêpe suzette, truffle add-ons, and pastries such as passion fruit-pistachio bostock. The spread costs $35, with bottomless mimosas and specialty cocktails available separately.

Coltivare's free pretzels on Halloween night are available only while supplies last.
