Rays Must Win Game 4 Tonight or Go Home
With a 3-0 deficit, Tampa Bay faces its toughest obstacle in baseball history at Tropicana Field.

For the families and workers of St. Petersburg, the evening of October 27, 2026, brings a stark reality. The Tampa Bay Rays are scheduled to take the field at Tropicana Field at 8 p.m. with a simple mandate: win. If they fail, the team returns home for the season. If they succeed, they keep a slim hope alive for a championship that no team has ever secured from this position.
The path to this point has been painful. The series began on Saturday with a 3-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The following day, the Rays held a 4-0 lead in the second game but were overtaken for a 5-4 defeat. The margin widened on Monday, when Milwaukee dominated the third game with a 10-1 victory.
The third game was defined by a historic offensive outburst. With two outs in the fifth inning, the Brewers scored eight runs in a single half-inning. That sequence stands as a record for a single inning in the World Series. Tampa Bay starter Freddy Peralta allowed five runs before being removed. Robert Gasser pitched six innings for Milwaukee, allowing only one hit and no runs. The Rays scored their sole run in the ninth inning, a score that could not change the outcome.
Now, the Rays face a statistical hurdle that has defeated every team before them. In Major League postseason history, only one team has ever overcome a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series. The Boston Red Sox accomplished this feat in 2004 against the New York Yankees. No team has ever erased such a lead in the World Series itself. To win the title, Tampa Bay must win four consecutive games starting tonight.
The Brewers hold a 3-0 lead and need just one more victory to claim their first championship in franchise history. A win for Milwaukee on Tuesday night would end the series immediately. A win for Tampa Bay would shift the series to 3-1, forcing the teams to travel to Milwaukee for Game 5.
The ball is now in the hands of the Rays. They have lost the previous three encounters, including two that were decided by a single run. Tonight's contest is the final gate before the series ends or continues. The crowd at Tropicana Field will watch to see if the team can find the spark needed to change the outcome of the series.
The first pitch is set for 8 p.m. local time. The outcome will determine whether the Rays stay in the conversation for the trophy or pack their bags.
