Al Palmer stood in the third position in the queue at the new Norwich Lego store on Thursday morning. She arrived at 05:00 GMT to be among the first customers to enter the shop. The opening day marked the latest development in the local retail scene for the brick-building brand.

Palmer, 23, lives near Norwich and works as a primary school teacher. She estimates her current collection is worth approximately £3,000. She began building with Lego as an adult during her university years. The hobby now serves as a primary method for managing her autism and ADHD.

The building process provides a distraction from daily stressors. Palmer described the activity as therapeutic to BBC Look East. She said it allows her to focus and take her mind off other things. She noted that she loves collecting, displaying, and researching the history of the brand, including trips to the Lego museum in Denmark.

Palmer funds her purchases by saving a small amount of money each month. She views her spending as a deliberate choice similar to other leisure activities like travel or fashion. She explained that she works hard to achieve her savings and chooses to spend that money on the collection she is proud to own.

She integrates her interest into her professional life by trying to include Lego in her classroom lessons. She also maintains a TikTok account with 4,000 followers where she shares her passion for bricks. This online presence has helped her connect with a community of other Lego enthusiasts.

The new store offers a physical location for the local fan base. Palmer’s early arrival demonstrates the dedicated following the brand has cultivated in the region. Her collection represents a significant personal investment in time and money.
