Oklahoma City University will open its campus to the public for a series of homecoming events from Nov. 10 through 14. The celebration carries the theme “The One Where They Had Homecoming,” a title that references the television show “Friends.” The school designed the festivities to evoke the energy of New York City.

The university has scheduled several activities for the community at no cost. On Nov. 12 at 1 p.m., alumnus Isaiah Bailey will speak in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel. Bailey currently stars in a touring production of “Phantom of the Opera.” He will discuss his career on stage during the presentation.

The final day of the event features a packed schedule. A homecoming parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Nov. 14. Bailey will serve as the parade marshal. The procession will move around the perimeter of the campus and include creative floats.

At 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 14, the Freede Wellness and Activity Center will host a pregame tailgate. Located at 1798 NW 27th St., the venue will offer free food and OCU Homecoming T-shirts to attendees. Entertainment and activities will continue until the basketball game starts at 2 p.m.

The OCU Stars women’s basketball team will play Haskell Indian Nations University during that afternoon matchup. Following the game, the 42nd annual LipSync Student Competition will begin at 5 p.m. in the Freede Center.

The visual design for this year’s homecoming incorporates specific New York City elements. Decorations will feature Times Square lights, Broadway marquees, and the NYC skyline. The theme also includes yellow cabs, subway signs, and street art. The LipSync performances will integrate these visual components into the show.

The university describes New York as a place where millions of stories intersect. The homecoming theme aims to reflect that concept. The school intends for the event to remind attendees that everyone has a place on campus. Visitors can find more details about the schedule at okcu.edu/homecoming.
