College football rankings shifted sharply in Week 9 as upsets reshuffled the top of the table. The Texas Longhorns moved up one position to rank No. 10 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll released on Sunday, November 1.
The Longhorns secured the spot after a 31-3 victory over Mississippi State. Quarterback Arch Manning threw three touchdowns during the game. Defensive lineman Maraad Watson also added a score with a scoop-and-score play.
Other major movements occurred at the top of the rankings. Miami remained No. 1 after a narrow win against North Carolina. Ohio State dropped from No. 2 to No. 11. The Buckeyes suffered a 30-18 defeat at the hands of unranked USC, marking their second loss of the season.
Several ranked teams fell out of the poll due to losses to unranked opponents. Oregon defeated former No. 20 Northwestern. Syracuse beat then-No. 19 SMU. Iowa State won against then-No. 24 Oklahoma State.
Northwestern, Oregon, UTSA, SMU, Virginia Tech, Duke, Minnesota, Liberty, Oklahoma State, and Louisville received votes in the latest poll. Texas travels to Columbia, Mo., to play No. 19 Missouri at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
