The Massachusetts Minutemen aim to halt a four-game losing streak when they receive the Ball State Cardinals at Warren P. McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Hadley, Massachusetts. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday night. The contest marks a meeting of two Mid-American Conference opponents with contrasting recent results but similar overall records.
Ball State enters the matchup with a 3-5 overall record and a 2-2 conference mark. The Cardinals defeated Sacramento State 34-17 on Oct. 24. Their performance away from home has been inconsistent, resulting in a 1-4 road record for the 2026 season. UMass holds a 4-4 overall record and a 1-3 conference mark. The Minutemen lost 35-16 at Connecticut on Oct. 23 and have won two of their two home games this year.
The all-time series between the two programs is tied at 2-2. Betting markets list UMass as the 3.5-point favorite, with the total points line set at 49.5. Both teams have performed well against the spread in their respective games, with Ball State and UMass each posting a 5-3 record against the number this season.
Offensive output provides the key context for the game total. Massachusetts ranks fourth in the MAC with an average of 26.5 points per game. Ball State ranks seventh in the conference in scoring. However, the Cardinals have allowed an average of 35.3 points per game, which is the highest total in the league. This defensive vulnerability aligns with a recent trend where the over has been achieved in eight of Ball State's last 10 games.
Quarterback statistics indicate high passing volume for both sides. Ball State's Keldric Luster has thrown for 1,300 yards and nine touchdowns this season. UMass's William Watson III has accumulated 1,025 passing yards and eight touchdowns. The SportsLine Projection Model simulated the matchup 10,000 times. The model projects Luster for more than 200 yards and one touchdown, while Watson is projected for over 225 yards and two scores.
The simulation results point to a high-scoring affair. The model predicts 52 combined points, placing the over as the value side in 55% of the simulations. The projection also indicates that one side of the spread hits in well over 60% of the simulated outcomes. The SportsLine model entered Week 10 with an 80-77 record on its top-rated college football picks.
