The Philadelphia Eagles surrendered 416 total yards to the Dallas Cowboys in a 38-21 loss on Monday night, marking the fifth consecutive defeat for the team. The result at Lincoln Financial Field drops the Eagles to 2-5, extending a losing streak that had not occurred since 2016. The Cowboys' offense capitalized on a defensive unit that struggled to contain both the passing and rushing attacks throughout the contest.
The Cowboys' ground game proved decisive against a defense that had allowed 76 rushing yards per game entering the week. Dallas rushed for 204 yards, averaging 5.4 yards per carry, with running back Javonte Williams gaining 155 yards and a touchdown. This performance represents the second most rushing yards allowed by the Eagles in the last three seasons and the most permitted to Dallas since 1993.
Quarterback Dak Prescott completed three touchdown passes, extending the Cowboys' offensive dominance. The Eagles' secondary, which includes two first-team All-Pros, allowed three more touchdown passes in this game, bringing their total for the last three weeks to seven. The unit has intercepted only three passes in 244 faced this season. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's group finished the game with no sacks, no interceptions, and no forced fumbles.
Offensively, the Eagles showed improvement in the passing game. Quarterback Tanner McKee started for the second consecutive week, a first in his career. He completed 23 of 35 passes for 211 yards and one touchdown. His first interception of the season occurred late in the game. Wide receiver Makai Lemon recorded career highs with seven catches for 67 yards, including a 15-yard reception on fourth down and his first career touchdown.
Running back Saquon Barkley returned from a two-game absence due to a hamstring injury. He scored a touchdown on the Eagles' first drive of the game, rushing for 62 yards on seven carries. However, he exited the game late in the fourth quarter when Dallas backup Dameon Pierce was injured. Practice squad running back Elijah Mitchell, who rejoined the team the previous week, finished the game on the field.
Cornerback Britain Covey left the game after the first quarter with a knee injury. The Eagles' defensive front, featuring players like Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis, failed to generate pressure or stop the run effectively. The team has recorded only eight sacks and three takeaways through seven games of the season.
The Eagles visit the Washington Commanders on Sunday night in Week 8. They will enter that game having lost their previous five contests, a streak that dates back to the 2016 season under head coach Doug Pederson.
