Miami-Dade voters approved a school tax renewal by a margin of more than 81 percent in Tuesday's midterm election. The measure ensures dedicated funding for the district's teacher and instructional staff compensation. It also finances safety improvements across the county's public schools.
Broward County voters also renewed their school tax referendum. Just over 66 percent of voters supported the measure. This result marks the highest level of support for the referendum since its initial passage in 2018.
Both counties had previously approved these tax measures in 2018 and renewed them in 2022. The latest votes extend the funding period through 2031. Miami-Dade County Public Schools will continue serving more than 300,000 public and charter school students with this dedicated revenue.
Superintendent Rafael A. Villalobos stated that the voters placed their trust in the public schools. He noted that teachers carry the weight of inspiring children every single day. He said ensuring competitive compensation is essential to retaining the best talent in classrooms.
Broward Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn said voters affirmed their trust in the district. He stated they recommitted to investing in talent and student safety. He added that they are investing in the well-being of students with the highest percentage of voter support since the first referendum passed in 2018.
