Patrick Kutas, the right guard for the Ole Miss Rebels, received the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week award on Monday. This marks the second occasion in three weeks that the conference has recognized his performance. The honor came after the Rebels defeated Auburn 45 to 15 on Oct. 31.
Kutas has built this reputation through consistent play. In the contest against Auburn, graders rated his overall performance at 93%. He recorded 10 knockdowns during the game. The offensive unit allowed the Tigers to sack the quarterback zero times, extending a streak to three consecutive games without a sack.
The line’s blocking created space for the ground game. Ole Miss rushed for 224 yards and gained 487 total yards in the win. Four different Rebels scored touchdowns on the ground after Kutas cleared the path. The offense converted on 13 of 16 third-down attempts. They also scored on four of five red zone trips.
Kutas and his teammates maintain a strong record over the full season. The unit has allowed 0.63 sacks per contest. That ratio ranks first among SEC programs and fourth in the nation. The Rebels enter this week with a 6-2 record, holding a 4-2 mark in conference play.
The team faces a difficult challenge this weekend. Georgia, ranked No. 2 and boasting a 7-1 record, travels to Oxford for a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff on Saturday. The Bulldogs have a 5-1 record in the SEC. ABC and participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations will broadcast the matchup.
