Studio76 has entered its crime thriller 'Hannibal Inside' into the Taiwan Creative Content Fest, seeking international distribution partners and co-producers. The series, currently in pre-development, centers on a sashimi chef who discovers his past as the lead surgeon for a global organ trafficking ring.
The plot adapts Kadokawa Taiwan's novel 'The Monster Community.' Producer Dennis Yang stated that the team merged the book's serial killer narrative with real-world news reports on black-market organ trading to create a story with emotional depth.
The protagonist, Owen, loses his memory in a car crash two years prior to the story's start. He works at a fishing port in Keelung, Taiwan, remembering only his girlfriend Xi-xi. His past is uncovered when he saves a stranger on the street, a video that goes viral and alerts his former associates.
Owen was the chief surgeon for Undercurrent, a syndicate that sold organs to wealthy clients worldwide. Only a shadowy leader known as The Professor held a higher rank. Jiang Xu, an assassin for Undercurrent, attempts to restore Owen's memories while Detective Lin investigates a series of murders linked to organ removal.
After Xi-xi is killed, Owen travels to his hometown of Songkhla, Thailand, seeking revenge. He meets Captain Xu Zhi-rou, whose father he previously saved. The narrative culminates on a luxury cruise ship where billionaires bid on living individuals based on organ compatibility.
Director Ray Jiang focused on the theme of life's value, asking who decides who lives and who dies. He rejected the idea that criminals deserve to die while good people should live forever, asserting that every life has worth through a person's own journey.
This is Studio76's third selection for Series Mania in Lille, France, following 'The Brides Town' and 'The Swamp Thing.' Yang called the TCCF selection a major milestone. The team plans to meet IP investors, streamers, and European distributors at the festival.
The Taiwan Creative Content Fest, organized by TAICCA, runs from November 6 to 9 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center.
