Mexican singer Carlos Rivera is expected to undergo surgery on his vocal cords within the next few days. The procedure follows the failure of a conservative treatment designed to heal a direct injury to his voice.
Journalist Joel O'Farrill detailed the medical timeline on November 4 during a program hosted by Gustavo Adolfo Infante. He stated that Rivera began experiencing minor bleeding, which prompted doctors to identify a lesion on his vocal cords. The medical team initially prescribed an emergency treatment requiring the singer to stop speaking for two weeks.
That period of silence took place between September and early October. Rivera told followers in a live Instagram broadcast that he would not be able to speak during that time. When doctors re-examined him to see if the rest had cured the injury, they found it had not.
O'Farrill said the medical team then informed Rivera that surgery was necessary. The reporter added that the operation is planned for the current week. Rivera previously confirmed in October that the surgery would take place during the second week of November.
The recovery period is estimated to be three months long. Rivera said he hopes to return to the stage in February to complete the concerts he missed this year and resume his tour.
