ILT Stadium Southland faces national competition for two awards in venue management. The facility is a finalist for Medium Venue of the Year. General manager Jo Hutton is a finalist for Team Leader of the Year.
The Entertainment Venues Association New Zealand (EVANZ) selects these finalists based on event management excellence across the country. Hutton stated the nominations reflect a team effort. She described the stadium's daily work for the community as the basis for this recognition.
Hutton attributed the venue's condition to ongoing investment. She said support from funders and the local community allows the staff to continually reinvest in the facility. "You walk in and it still feels like a new venue," Hutton said.
The general manager noted that while the stadium was previously known primarily as an indoor sporting venue, it has expanded its role. She identified the facility's multi-purpose nature as its biggest strength. This shift includes hosting entertainment and community events alongside sport.
Karen Poff, chair of the Stadium Southland Limited board, called Hutton's nomination thoroughly deserved. Poff credited Hutton's leadership and commitment to staff for the venue's continued success.
EVANZ will announce the winners at an event in Christchurch on December 2.
